How many drivers have this problem on the big school buses children that dont want to wear the seatbelts rather they would use them as weapons here in pittsburgh not many of our big school buses have them in since its not not state law many districts just put them in the minibuses like here at PENN HILLS are there problems like this in other states

From what drivers with seat-belts on their big buses have said to me, they love em'. The difference in attitude has to do with intent revealed in written policy and bus driver support. On buses where use of the belts are required and the bus driver can refuse to transport students refusing to follow directions the issue you present does not exist. On buses where politics rule, use is voluntary and no bus driver authority to enforce use, the belts can end up used as weapons, tied in knots or otherwise damaged. Incredible waste of resources and a fraud toward providing a safe environment. Such districts are excessively vulnerable to litigation in my opinion - damaged seat-belts kids can't use would certainly be providing unsafe equipment ripe for pickings after even a minor crash. Suddenly, every kid wanted to wear the belts but they didn't work and, of course, the bus driver didn't care. I can't say this enough times: Lack of enforcement and defective safety equipment is the next big settlements agenda. (jk)
