They say this could be "mechanical or driver failure". I'm sorry, but I'm a bus riding student and a beginning SUV driver, and I know how to check if my headlights, taillights, turn signals etc are functioning even when I am DRIVING the vehicle! (You can catch reflections of head/taillights, and your turn signals bounce off the road surface). By saying "mechanical failure" publicly, the school district as just asked for a state inspection and, maybe, a shutdown. Also, I find it difficult to understand why, a, this driver did not do his pre/post trips and catch this, b, why other drivers did not say anything to the terminal manager or if they did why nobody listened, and c, if the lights failed on the trip, why the driver did not notice (there are mirrors, too, dummy, that you can see your lights) and stop the bus immediately, contacting base and waiting for them to bring a replacement.

With First Student, even if your warning light trigger button gets the slightest bit "sticky" or you have to push that button any harder than you did on your pre-trip, you had better be contacting base. If you have to fight with that "sticky" button or if it doesn't work at all, you better be contacting base and saying "I need a sub bus!" while your hazards are flashing and you are pulled over on the side of the road. And if your hazards aren't working or that button is sticky, you better be opening triangles and setting them out. |
