What is your average walking distance to a scheduled bus stop? Does the student's age make a difference? Please indicate if you are located in a busy city or country setting and if that makes a difference...
Our district is not really affected because we are a small district, but other district's are not so generous and may force high school kids to walk up to a mile. Besides special ed and some kindergarteners most kids don't get door to door transportation. I only have to walk down a hill to get to my bus stop. In general it's not a long walk. By the way SOME high school kids do get door to door service, because the stop for a certain area happens to be in their driveway. Like in one cul-de-sac one house is the stop, or on a road the bus stops in front of one of the kids' houses. The others have to walk over.
