In the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks, should school bus operators be reconsidering their prevention and response plans to possible terrorist attacks?

Absolutely, it's never too early to start planning for any type of disaster. If there is no "Plan of Action", there is a better chance of panic, injury and more disaster. Hopefully, this type of plan will never be tested ... but in the event something does happen ... I know I want to be better prepared by having a "Plan of Action".

Amen on the absolutely. Emergency response planning should be an on going program as conditions are constantly changing. Schools could become a target we need to be vigilant.

Every Employee was given an emergency Quick referance booklet this year. We have had this booklet for several years now. It covers everything from first aid to bomb threats with policies and proceedures for all school employees.
Since Sept. 11, 2001 the Superintendant and Board have restricted reciept of personal deliveries to school employees and UPS has been directed to deliver ALL packages to the Maintanance center.
We bus driver's have been instructed not to allow unauthorized persons on the bus, including parents of students on the bus. This means we close the door in thier face if they try to enter the bus.
Just an observation, how many times have parents stepped up onto the bottom step to say that last goodbye or make a reminder to a child. In some cases, I myself, don't give such things a second thaught, until now.
