How many people besides drivers (including subs, part time) and attendents (monitors, aides) does your district/contracter employ? Ours employs a 4 mechanic garage, 3 general office staff (who also double as dispatchers), a driver traininer and a discipline (safety) coordinater. How large is the Management? Do contracters have thier own Human Resources department?

M-DCPS has a total of 3,005 transportation employees. 811 bus aides, 1,733 drivers, and I'm not sure of how many mechanics.

That scenario there almost exactly mirrors the Shelton School District, and the Peninsula School District's bus operations. They have slightly more mechanics thoiugh, with 6 for Shelton, and 8 for Peninsula. We have no bus monitors, and no driver trainors. The drivers here get trained on their routes by the people they replace - either as subs or permanent. Management is confined to the MCTC (Mason County Transportation Co-operative) Transportation Director. For the Hood Canal SD, who operates under the MCTC, they have the head driver, who is in charge of drivers and the buses for the Hood Canal SD.

Each district, besides Hood Canal, SD, operates a fleet of 40+ buses. Hood Canal has a fleet of 8 transits, and three type "A" buses.

Our exact figures now: 59 regular drivers, 13 subs, 6 mechanics, 5 office staff, 4 or 5 bus monitors. The office staff is our director, secretary, driver trainer/safety coordinator, discipline coordinator (who also has other responsibilites) and the head driver. Routing is handled by a driver, our secretary does dispatching.

Our department is staffed by the Director, an administrative assistant, two mechanics, and 17 school bus drivers. Everyone is licensed to drive the buses except the secretary. We need one more supervisor since the Director does everything (training, dispatching, scheduling, assigns field trips, etc. etc. etc.). Our District takes care of Human Resources and benefits...
