Lately it seems that my district's drivers are changing routes more and more often. I've always known that my drivers switch routes once in a while, but I'd like to know if anyone else does this. They set all the route sheets on a table and the people go in by serniority to apply for that route. My driver just switched off to another route and we have another driver which we've had before. Does anyone else do this, and how do you?

This year about three or four of our drivers switched routes. I don't know why though....

Drivers don't switch routes much around here during the year. Over summer they might switch to a new contractor and drive a different route.
We used to have some bus switching like a bus that was orignally 43 would be 49 and 49 be 43 for awhile or all year. There is not much of that anymore.

Anytime a route is left vacant, it is posted for bid in all compounds. The senior driver bidding will get the run. At that time, their old run goes up for bid. Joe

Our drivers bid on the routes for the fall and for the summer. Since our turnover rate is low, it is rare that we have a rebid during the year. If someone leaves, we just ask everyone by seniority if they are interested in the route. If not, it is left open until a new driver is hired. Our drivers are guaranteed 7 hours per day regardless of the route, so unless they don't want wheelchairs, specific age groups, etc., they rarely change mid year.
