Does your bus yard have a office. If so do they have a place were the drivers can go and sit between routes and watch T.V or relax and get food or anything? If they don't would you like this in your bus yard?

We don't have TV's (no one would agree on a channel-LOL), but we do have an air conditioned drivers room at every compound and an outside covered pavillion with pic-nik tables where they can smoke. (Can't smoke anywhere on school district property-indoors).

Back at the bus garage, there's a office. They also have vending machines for the drivers, but no lounge.

My drivers and bus monitors have two lounges. One is for the card players and the other for the soap opera watchers. Each lounge has a computer w/internet connection and a color TV and VCR. They share a refrigerator and microwave. I recently terminate smoking privileges in the building.

In the morning when the drivers are done doing there secondary runs, they'll park in front of the middle school and go into the teachers lounge for breakfast and to talk. NO SMOKING though!

Some of the driver may pull in front of the high school and go on each other's buses and talk.

Our bus shop has 3 offices: 1 for the transportation supervisor, 1 for the shop foreman and 1 for the secretary. We don't have a lounge or anything. There is an open area in the garage in between the 3 offices that we can sit and visit, but that is about all. We can buy a coke, a candy bar or have coffee, but there is no TV or radio.

Our district has a good sized breakroom, the drivers even get their own mailboxes. There is a lot of office space, for the head bus driver, director, secretaries, trainer, safety director and head mechanic.

Do bus drivers get their own lockers or mailboxes in the lounge? Is their an office reserved for the Head Bus Driver (if there is such a position)

Yes we have mailboxes for the drivers and monitors. We don't have a "head busdriver" Do you? Please if so tell me about it. Might be something worth looking into at our lot.
Thanks, Pusher2

Yes our district does have a Head Bus Driver and an Assistant Head Bus Driver. They are responsible for a number of things, including writing out directions for the drivers, handling parent complaints (a shared job), acting as supervisers and from what I understand making other decisons. This a very important job at our system.

Indianapolis Public Schools Transportation Center is an old Coca Cola plant, located just east of downtown. They have alot of room there and their lounge area is huge! They have about 270 buses at this location and also have two other transportation centers that have 200 buses at each location.

I also forgot to mention that Indianapolis also has a contractor service through First Student and they have about 300 Routes!

We have a conference room also, plus the building custodian's office, training room and bathrooms. The offices are air conditioned, yet for some reason the driver's room is not. I'm sure there's no cable TV. You guys deserve luxury!

My district's bus shop has a room with 2 bathrooms (1 each gender) that are shared with the maintenance and admin personnel. The room has A/C, a dry erase board, a bulletin board, and each driver has a clipboard. There is also a table and chairs. The room holds about 10 people comfortably, so meetings are held in the shop bay or the local civic center.

We have a very small office that only the bus mechanic uses. Our district has a estimated amount of 25 buses, and we only have one mechanic. And only he uses the office. As for between the routes, in our district, the drivers must wait inside their bus.

We have a lounge area with vending machines shared with the School Administration offices next door on one side and the shop on the other side. We see everyone from the Superintendant of Schools to the secretaries and mechanics in to grab pop and candy.

We all have a cubby type box for notes and such. Our Supervisor, the secretaries the mechanics and Head Bus Driver/Trainer have their own offices as well.

Smile, it makes people wonder what you're up to.

Our bus Depot Is rather small. We have a fleet of over 100 buses. the depot consists of: 4 bus bays (1 with a pit), office, small lounge (1 big table, coffee maker, candy machine, fridge, microwave, and cupboards), 1 bathroom, and our parts room. The depot's decor is from the 70's!! and desperatly has to be modernized!
