I am interested in knowing why the concern for student safety never talks about mechanics pay.After all the school bus is only as safe as the person who maintains it.

I totally agree with you. When I drove a school bus I could not have asked for a better group of mechanics to keep my bus running. I had complete confidence in their abilities and I knew from experience that if they said it was fixed, then it was fixed. This in no way took responsibility away from me, as the bus driver, to pre-trip and check my bus to make sure it was running properly and to take care of the bus when I drove it, but it did make me feel better to know that they were the ones fixing my bus and maintaining it. Mechanics are grossly underpaid, as are bus drivers and others in the transportation field.
