Basically our organization is looking for a placard type rider check system. I have spent too much time surfing and can't seem to find anything except electronic systems. If someone knows where we might find info on this please post.

Thanks in advance, Michael

They shoudn't be that hard to make. Get (or cut) a bunch of plastic rectangles and have EMPTY put on them. Attach a magnet to the same side as the word EMPTY and have the drivers hang it on the rear door so it shows through the window.

It's BIG, it's YELLOW, it has RED FLASHING LIGHTS. What part didn't you see?

Our school is really short on money, so I made our signs out of very bright pink (so they could be easily seen) construction paper, Just wrote in large letters "Emply"
laminated them and attached velcro to the sign and to the bus. Cost was just pennies. Work great.

before i started driving a bus they had the card system and from wht i understand they had a place in the front and in the back. you placed it in the back at the start of your run and when you parked you walked the bus and got it and hung it in the front to show it was empty..but even with the child safty system there are still children left on the bus...it is easy to lern who are your sleepers and i watch at the begining of the school year and then place all my sleepers in the front seats...i also try to get get the children involved by haveing a buddy system and they wake each other up. i alos have the last child off the bus tell me if they see anyone sleeping but ofcourse i walk my bus....the very second my last child is off the bus i pull over and look whild walking to the back and again while walking to the front....one day i had a child crawl under the seats to the back of the buss and go to sleep. if i hadn't walked the entire bus i would have never knowen because i didn't have many kids on that run and i never let them go tothe back of the bus...so now he is in the front seat....it scared the hell out of me when i walked back there and saw him sleeping.....he is so small...from that day on i checked twice

The buddy system works well as stated above, but nothing can replace a well trained, professional schoolbus driver. I don't really believe in signs, electronics, etc. The driver is the first and best way to check the bus after each portion of every route.

I agree with UncleNeal. Since the question was about ideas for the check system, I decided I'd answer the way I did. Ultimately, I think that stuff should not even have to be used. All drivers should be checking their buses without needing "reminders"
