Hey all, rhis question may have been asked before but I forgot what the answer was. Is school bus driving a full time or a part time job? One of our drivers described it as "A part time job but one that takes all day". The classification may be different based on geography. I was just curious to see which you are considered...I was unsure, I could see points for both.
I have both full time and part-time employees every day. During our off hours my drivers have varied duties including maintenance on their vehicles, delivering school mail and supplies, field trips and running a courier service to the superintendent's office. They also recieve benefits and bonuses. I find most drivers would rather work a full time day if possible. But we offer both..
I get paid for 33 hours a week Mon-Fri so i consider it a "part time job" but it is like a full time job - I start my day at 6 am and end at 5 pm - with about approx 3 hours in between- I enjoy having my break period because it gives me a chance to do other task- I also keep another part time job witch offers great health and dental and vacation benefits- If Laidlaw could come anything to near what my other job offers and the cheap cost I think I would drop my second job- But a second job is a great backup when you want to earn more money or during school vacations. So the hours I work bus driving work very well for me..for the most part...I do wish that they would start school a little later so i could sleep later!
Here we are considered Part Time. This is a sensitive point with some because we are split shift and driving at times precludes other employment. If we have a half day we are expected to report to work which sometimes interfers with another job. Some of the contention has to do with having to be available for work during "Off" hours but not being considered full time.
