How many of you (young or old) have had bus drivers in your family? My maternal grandmother Dorothy drove for an upscale suburban school district in New York for years. She still tells stories about it. She retired a year before Laidlaw took over the district (she still draws from her retirement benefits over a decade later). After she retired she and my grandfather (a retired firefighter) worked as school crossing guards. My grandmother (now widowed) retired several years ago. My grant-aunt Ginny (my grandma Dorothy's sister) still drives for Laidlaw. She works in the inner city (Rochester, NY) and recently sparred with my grandmother over whether rich or poor kids was worse behaved. Well that's my family connection-how many of you have drivers in the family tree?

I have a grandmother that retired from driving a school bus a couple years ago. Her sister (my great-aunt) was also a bus driver that retired a couple years prior to my grandma. I have an aunt that is currently a transportation secretary as well.

Believe it or not, there's no other person in my family who has ever driven a school bus in the past or present. I don't know what happened to me, hehe.

I have an aunt that drives in Northern Virginia, although I've never met her (I think she's my aunt, in-law aunt, if that makes sense). Other then her, I'll be first! Silas J.

My aunt Mishele used to drive a bus. She quit about four years ago. It was a big heart break to me.
What next will happen in this crazy circus?! |

My aunt used to drive a bus in Wisconsin, but I found that out only a few years ago so it did not influence my interest.

I'm the first in my family to drive a school bus. It started with my husband changing jobs to drive a semi...then me with a bus...then my brother with a semi...now I'm training my sister to drive a school bus. I think it's kind of neat. My sister will be driving for the same district I do. (My husband and brother drive for the same company also.)

I am the only driver in my family and believe me, when I told them what I was going to do, they thought I was crazy! I was on a field trip with my daughter and started talking to the bus driver, she said that the district needed subs really bad, next thing I knew I was at the licence bureau, taking the tests! I love my job and the great part is how convenient it is for me, if my oldest son has wrestling practice, and won't be home right after school to watch the 2 younger kids, I just call their driver on the radio and tell him to send my kids to whatever bus I am on, and they just ride with me! And they love telling their friends that the bus driver is their mom! I guess they think it will keep the bullies away or something! lol
