Hey guys, Haven't posted on here for quite a bit.
I just have a quick question about a 2002 International T444E that our school board has. (This isn't my bus having the problems, but it's another driver's bus).
The bus will run fine one minute and then all a sudden it will "Bog down" and lose a lot of power or will just quit. Normally you have to let it sit for a few moments and then it will start back up again.
After getting a mile or two down the road it will "bog down" again and just quit.
It normally starts doing this half way through the AM and PM runs. So it seems to happen when it is warmed up good.
Last week the bus was in the shop getting a new oil seal on the pan, because it all of a sudden started leaking oil, but this stalling thing had been going on for about a month or two before this. This old bus is spending more time in the shop than on the road now!
This bus has a "new" remanufactured engine (about 2yrs ago) and also has a new ECU.
Anybody have any similar issues with a 02' 444E?
Anything that i can ask the mechanics to check out?
Thanks fellas. |

| My first guess is a bad cam position sensor. Without knowing more about when it bogs down, if it has an Allison 2000 trans, and it is stalling when pulling up to a light or stop sign, it can be a bad torque converter (problem with the stator). It also can be a bad IPR (injection pressure regulator) but that usually sets a code in the engine computer. Has the fuel filter/strainer been replaced at regular intervals. A restriction in the fuel system could cause this. Another good place to start is to check the codes but low fuel pressure from fuel filters won't set a code in this unit. |

| I would be checking all the power and ground studs. Especially if you still have the 8D with the wing nut posts. |

| Agree with Bassman. Check codes, could be IPR and/or wiring. |

| I had one once doing similar, turned out to be cam position sensor connector that got partially dislodged during a water pump replacement. |
Why yes, the ORIGinal CHARGER is a Fastback |

| Thanks for the info guys. I'll pass these suggestions along. They ordered a whole new injector kit for it today, so that will be installed in the next couple of days. |

| Intermittant stalling on an 02 is most likely a cam sensor. Many times they wont throw a code for the cam sensor but you will get a weird one like oil pressure high while engine not running. |
