2006 Blue Bird All American FE with a CAT C7. Built 12/04 and 1/05.
I am pretty sure this bus has an MD3060...I've always been told it's a "World" transmission and I think the World series included the 3060. Anyway, is there a method for forcing it into an Economy-mode shift schedule, without a computer? I get very frustrated with the shift points on this bus. The worst one is toward higher speeds... It won't go into high gear until you exceed 41 mph. So, if the speed limit is 40, I'm screaming along at 1900 RPM, even though I know if I could get it up to 41, it would drop down in RPM to about 1500. In decelerating and then maintaining a lower speed, it will hold in high gear with lock-up down to 35 or 34 at 1200 RPM. I'd like to shift up to a higher gear much sooner if there is a way. Having to break that 41 mph threshold is wasteful.
This bus has a T-handle shift selector where the shift cable runs to an electronic switch on the transmission housing.

| If it is a 3060, there should be a button for econ mode on the shifter housing. Our 3800s with the 3060s and T-handle shifters have an econ mode button to the left of the shifter handle, above the digital readout of the selected gear. If the shifter is not so equipped, I'd bet that bus has a 2000 series. I've never seen a bus with a 3060 that did not either have a push button selector or a T-handle with digital readout, econ button and diagnostics button, but hey, anything is possible. Wish I could be of more help, but I'm stuck with all Internationals here! |

| I am taking my new bus with a 2000 series transmission into the shop tomorrow for a similar problem. I am under the perception that you can only do this with a computer, that is the reason I am taking ours in. They told me that they have to upload the information from the transmission to Allison. Then Allison has to change the programming and send it back to the dealer and then they have to load it back onto the transmission. That sounds strange to me but that's what the dealer says. |

That sounds like you have an Allison 2000 series, not 3000. Easy way to be sure, look under the bus on the driver side, if there is an external spin-on filter on the bottom of the transmisson towards the front, you have the 2000.
I'm with bwest on this, if no "Mode" or "econ" button or switch, it's off to Allison! |

Bah! Not the answer I wanted! But very definitive, thank you. I must have a 2000. There is a very small spin on filter, front left, like you describe. I know it is there because I am frequently writing it up for leaks! Bummer that I can't help this problem without a computer.
Oh well, it's not going to be my problem much anymore. Found out the morning after my initial post here that it is very, very likely none of us will have jobs with the school next year.  |
