| Is it possible to bench test s air brake compressor without a lot of hassle. We just got (3x) 1999 TC2000 in with the 24v Cummins. I noticed one was spitting oil out of the dryer and the gasket from the pump to engine was leaking. I have the pump off to fix the gasket. The service information says to use the paper test, holding a piece of paper up to see an oil pattern. Even if I mount the pump back on the bus it will be impossible to access the air outlet to perform this test. My builder says he can't bench test it. I wonder how they know if it will work after rebuilding? |

| I am not versed on air systems at all but it seems to me that you could rig up some kind of motor and belt and then plumb it into a tank and see if it pumps up and does what the book says it should. If your guy that rebuilds them doesn't have a set up like that I'd be scared to run his stuff. Just sayin' |

But hey, oil spray is oil spray so why not try it? At least you wouldnt be putting the darn thing back on the engine to maybe have to take it right back off.
Refresh my memory on these...isn't there a nut on the end of the shaft that holds the gear in place? What would you think about putting that compressor in a vice and introducing it to your trusty impact or other drill? Mildy bad idea? Severely bad idea? I've never tried, but have wondered if it would work before.
If you just plain cant bench test em, what if a guy just took the supply line to the dryer off and saw what it pumped out at that point? |

Pretty tough to bench test a compressor without supplying lube oil pressure and cooling system to it.
A little oil is normal. A lot of oil will raise hell with the seals in your antilock valves.
It's a judgement call as to what is too much oil.

| I think I have it all lined out. I cleaned it up, replaced the gaskets on the block and p/s pump and changed the dryer. So far it looks fine, builds up pressure fast and not spitting oil. The bus has 95k on it and I don't think the dryer was ever serviced. One down ready for sale, two to go. |
