My district had a company come thru and do an energy management assessment ck buildings, for energy waste, heat, lights, etc. trying to save money, apparently this company also assessed buses as in the proposal there is a device that's sold to install in fuel line between fuel tank and engine that is suppose to increase fuel economy. Now, i didn't just fall off the turnip truck yesterday it was a couple of days before that, but can hardly believe this thing would actually work. (Web site is etieco.com ) just wondering if any one else had ever heard of this device or tried it? as of today i believe I've convinced the super's to try 1 or 2 and test, rather than purchasing for the whole fleet as was the plan to start with. They are quite pricey but if it did work, i suppose it would pay for itself, but sounds like snake oil to me. It seems to be quit popular in Texas according to the manufactures web site. also in this proposal were washable lifetime oil filters this but that's another story

I'm thinking like you are - very skeptical. Looking at etieco.com it reminds me of putting magnets on a fuel line. I didn't look long, but I didn't see anywhere about how it works. I suppose "Vapor Pressure Enhancer" kinda tells what it does, but do we really want vapor on the supply side of the fuel system, even if it is enhanced?

I talked with Mirenco (http://www.mirenco.com/) somewhere around 10 years ago. Their system worked between the throttle control and the actual throttle (re: foot feet vs. injector pump) to prevent over fueling. Very thorough in their testing and conservative with the numbers. Last I heard (again - close to ten years ago) they were ecstatic about gaining 1mpg for fed ex, or maybe it was UPS...dang this getting old. Back then they wanted to put two units on and test them - at no cost to the district. As far as I know that never happened but what sticks with me is their excitement about their technology and how they were very honest with their numbers.

Maybe talk to them or research a few more companies to get expected results and what kind of testing should be done to prove it.

It's a machine, not a werewolf.

Here is what I gleaned and my opinion on it.

Quote from site:
"What are the savings?
We are straight-up about this. It varies. Alot. On average 10%. Some get 4%, 12%, 15%, 30%. A trucking company is happy with 4%. Some school buses get 40%.

Some customers get no results
"

This should say a lot "we are straight up about this" What the heck! Are you not straight up about the rest?

"Some customers get no results" Again, What the heck?!

Lastly,

Quote from site:
Proof
Physical changes in the vapor pressure of hydrocarbon fuel passing through the device are easy to measure. The vapor pressure is more or less the evaporative pressure at a specific temperature, and volume. For our purposes, we know that it's raised when it passes through the device.

Again, What the heck?! What is vapor pressure and what does it have to do with diesel fuel that does not voporize when injected? Diesel is injected in microscopic droplets.

If this thing worked the new car manufacturers would be all over it to avoid paying the fines from the EPA.

SNAKE OIL!!

You are thinking on the same line i am, but and i say but trying to convince others (as they put it) without proper testing is something else

Here's another rant from me. I want to know what the heck the super is thinking when he wants to put this on the entire fleet without proof that it works. I wonder sometimes where these guys (gals) get their degree. I may not know a whole heck of a lot but I know when someone is trying to buffalo me! Wonder what else this super has bought from this outfit that has wasted hard earned tax money?

That's another thing, most of these supers and their kind don't think of tax money as hard earned. They think it comes from Scrooge McDuck who has a warehouse full of money just sitting there waiting to be spent. Even if you are Donald Trump you don't have money sitting around like that. Heck, look at Trump, he's been divorced how many times and his personal life is probably a wreck. So yeah he has worked hard & sacrificed for his money. Let him pay the same percentage tax as the rest of us!

Sorry, I'm done.

BTW Slippert. If you want me to take this soap box stuff off so your super can look at it give me the word.

Haha we put one of those "water injection" devices on a pickup for a guy. It worked fine till winter. Then it froze up and busted the water rez. We ended up pulling the whole system back off for him.

Invest in solar panels for your shop, and skylites for lighting could save a few dollars. How about a veggie diesel engine gennie for powering up the block heaters to your fleet in the winter? It's up to us techs, to find solutions. I am sure there are "green" grants available for us to do this. Let the pencil pushers look and apply for the money.

the company that's recommending these things along with all other energy savings for the district's buildings has all of this lumped into one RFP. so it was suppose to be all or nothing and i can see where you can replace a 30 year old furnace with a new one and the energy savings will repay the cost, same with insulation, new windows, solar panels ,etc. i have no idea why they came up with this vapor enhancer, I'm just happy at this point i was able to get them to test only one,I had one of the persons with the company doing the RFP admit he knew nothing about this device but looked good on internet. I have said the same things you guys are saying to my super's. I was just trying to find out if i had been living under a rock and had missed an important invention somewhere along the line, looks like i didn't.

"Missed and important invention" That's pretty funny! One would think if this is working that it would be font page news with $4 gas a reality.
