I was just wondering, on my all american, the air pressure only goes to 110PSI. Is this normal?
Its an 02 AA RE. Its done this since I bought it (used), and I have never had a problem stopping it. It says in the chassis build data that it has the extra air tank, so I always assumed since it had the extra tank, and extra volume, that it didn't necessarily need to be set at 120PSI. I can usually give the pedal at least 5 or more good pumps before it will get down to 90 PSI to trigger the governor.
I was reading up on how the governor system works on this and was wondering if I should adjust it or just leave it be. Again, I have never adjusted one of these. |

| The air brake test requires 125 psi and if you don't have that it doesn't pass the air brake test. Like you stated there is an adjustment on the governor. If you don't feel comfortable about adjusting it up a little take it to someone around there that works on air brakes. |

Matt how much did you pay for that bus? It looks to be nice and rust free. My employing school district is struggling to round up $10,000 to buy something older but of the same size, and rust free.  |

I got a heck of a deal on it. It went through a silent auction and I happened to win it. The same district just got rid of a 97' Thomas in good running condition. They got rid of mine mainly for simple reasons. The radiator was starting to show signs of rot and the engine was believed to have excessive blowby. While I confirm that it has some blowby, it doesn't appear to have an excessive amount. I relocated the breather tube and found that it was losing oil not from the breather, but from a leak, however I still have to find the leak. Its on the front of the motor, most likely leaking from the gear case seal, injection pump seal, air compressor seal or side cover on the engine.
I haven't had time to track down the leak, but its a project for the summer. |
