Does anyone know what manufacturer is producing those single LED, 4-inch stop/tail/turn lights? I am referring to the type that are recessed/flush, mounted in a rubber gasket. Perhaps they are not single LED, but they have an incandescent-look to them. I have seen them on a few truck trailers lately, but cannot find them anywhere online. Thanks!
PS - Bus restorers, rest assured...they are not for my #85-16. |

Those are them.
Can't say that I'm a fan of Grote. Lots of warranty replacements going on with units that I've dealt with. I'd stay far, far away. |

| Most of the large mgfs make them. Petersen, Truck Lite and others list one. We've run them on Florida buses for over 12 years, most are still good! |

| they are a model 40 in a trucklite version, incandescent, shock mounted bulb in a sealed housing they have been used on truck/trailer apps for years. normally corrosion of the wiring or terminals where the light plugs in are the biggest problem with them, unless you crack housing taking the light out- once moisture gets in bulbs don't last very long. |

slippert and wagonmaster, I am talking about LED. They just have an incandescent-look to them because they have a single LED behind a somewhat traditional lens. You can tell they are LED by the quick on and off, and by the fact that they don't fill the lens in exactly the same way an incandescent bulb would. Thanks for your help though, gentlemen.
Rich, do these come standard on Collins? |

Yes. Grote is also being used by some of the other manufacturers these days, I believe Micro Bird. The issues haven't been the LEDs themselves from what I understand, but the circuit boards frying.
I will say that they have been good with warranty support, it's just frustrating having units fail to begin with in such a short time frame. |

Thanks for the answer Rich. A local head start got some new Collins recently. Good looking buses, but one of them messed up the Michigan numbering, surprise surprise.  They have these Grote lights I think.
I ask about these lights because I was following a shoddy contractor school bus when a huge piece of ice flew off of it and struck my car, wrecking the fog lamps. They won't give me the time of day with their insurance company, so I figured I'd redneck it up and throw some 4" LEDs in place of the fog lamps and wire them as park/turns. hehehe |
