| If you get anywhere with your bus, please post cause ,because I think if they change another fuel pump I think I will throw it at someone. |

| It amazes me that people praise IC for the "goodness" and "reliability". I guess you get the terrible quality that comes with these junk buses. |

^ I've been thinking the same thing lately, but we have to remind ourselves that ICs are unfortunately the most common(?) buses out there, so of course we're going to hear the most horror stories about them. |

Ask me about the Thomas C-2. There are things that Thomas never will fix Or ask the guy that got 10 with consecutive VIN numbers, every one with a bug fogging, oil spewing Mercedes engine. Driver writes up, "oil leaking from back of bus". All have been rebuilt once under warranty. Now they are starting on the second round of rebuilds and guess who pays this time? Or when a particulate trap on one of the motor oil burners prematurely plugs with ash who will pay for that? Call the ICs junk if you like - If that's your opinion. HF

I did not call ICs junk. In fact, I was defending them by saying that. If you you have more of one thing, of course you're also going to have more problems with that thing. Let's say you have a fleet full of CEs. Will you have any problems with C2s? I'm just saying that there are a lot of CEs out there, so we hear the most about them.
What about the VT-365? That one didn't work out too well, and it came out of buses after just 2 model years. Likewise, the MBE was dropped, but I don't know the timing for that. I also seem to recall hearing about them replacing the Mercedes engine with ISBs. Was that not an option for you? And did IC offer a DT466E/MF DT/MF 7 to replace the 365 with? I don't see the 365 problems being bad enough to warrant that, though, but I don't have to deal with them myself.
Interesting that the Mercedes engines expelled oil while the MaxxForce DTs are "making" it as discussed here. |

VT365, 2 model years? 2005,2006,2007,2008 model years all had VT365s available. |

| The 03-early 05 Fords were supposed to have the "bad" 6.0Ls or VT365s. Did the 05-06 buses use the older engines because Ford seemed to do better after 05. I was just curious if the bus got better later on. |

| I was under the impression that the 365 was only 2005 and 2006 model year. And, according to First Student's numbering system, there are 2007 CEs with MF 7s running around here. I forget whether the "07" that begins the unit number of those buses is model year or purchase/fiscal year. If the "07" means that they were built in 2007, shouldn't they have the 2007-compliant MaxxForce, like these buses do? Or were they using leftover 365s through 2007? |

EPA standards are set up to apply to the engine's date of manufacture, not the bus itself. As long as the engine was built before the new rules took effect, it may be used in production.
Add to that the way these bus makers do model years and just forget trying to figure out what SHOULD be in the things. |

Remember the model year is not the year the bus was built. There are tons of M.Y. 2008s with VT 365 engines. Some 2008s were built in late 2006.
First Students number system was almost always 1 year off in the mid 2000s |

| We have a 2008 model year CE200 built in April of 2007 with a VT365 built in Dec of 2006. |

^ Thanks, I thought about it more and suspected something like that.
So they were only made in school buses in two calendar years, 2005 and 2006.... My point that they weren't around for long still stands. |

??? it was 4 years instead of 2. And its all in the marketing, the VT365 earned a bad reputation so when some significant changes were made they changed the name to something significantly differant. The DT 466 and B-series Cummins have had many significant changes in just as short of time frame but because they had positive reputations the marketing folks hung on to their heritage. |

calender year the VT365 was being used in 2003 1/2, 2004, 2005, 2006, and over stock in 2007. That would be 4 years |

Maybe we are to hard on navistar . Really as techs we should be happy that they always have something for us to do. The allison 2000 tranny is scary enough .I was used to replacing 3 to 5 at545's a year . In the last ten years not one of our allison 2000's has failed. My tranny jacks wheels rusted tight. If IH tried to build anything as reliable as that Id be out of a job . |
