| We just put our first DEF'd minotour into service today, starting out with only 914 miles. It took almost 4 gallons to top off the tank, I can't say if the tank was topped off before it left NC, but the spec sheet shows a 5.3gal tank size. Does anybody have any experience with these new units? This bus can easily do about 650+ miles a week, I'm just trying to get an idea of how much def we'll be pouring into this new machine. I've searched online but all I'm findng are numbers for the 6.6 in pickup truck form? |

The DEF should be dosing at about 2% of the fuel the vehicle consumes. 100 gallons of fuel = 2 gallons of DEF |
I may not know the answer but I can usually find who does. |

| That's about what we've been putting in them when we get them in for PDI (900 miles from factory). Honestly our first one's haven't been on the road long enough to get real good data (couple weeks and one of them was Xmas break). |

The savings start to accumulate when you buy DEF by the 55 gallon drum. Make sure that the pump & meter are ISO 22241 compliant & you will be set.
Further Recommendations:
- Stay away from the rinky-dink unitized blender Light Duty DEF pump contraption. It may be suitible for the guy running 2 VWs & keeping a 55 gal drum in his garage but I do not see the motor lasting & the flow rate is maddeningly slow. - Get the medium duty pump system. It comes with a real pump & motor. ......The medium duty system will adapt to the pallet tote unit as your DEF fleet expands. ......The GPM flow rate is MUCH more manageable. - order all systems & caontainers withe the "sealed" dispensing system. It'll look like a beer keg tap-port. Purity is muy importante. - Some people will try to gravity feed a barrel with a spigot & a jerry-Can. Do so at your own risk. Make sure that the can is dedicated to DEF (color blue & well marked)& locked away. Drivers & groundspeople will use any old can to carry washer solvent, coolant, gasoline, fuel & oil.

| Well the first 4500 miles have been trouble free, but now the fun starts! Is anyone else in the colder climates having problems with these new duracrap diesels? The bus is showing the DEF fluid range of 267 miles remaining, but when I try to fill the def tank up, it just spills right out of the fill tube. I've removed the two fill lines from the spout to the tank and checked for blockage, and they are clear. The bus has been in our heated garage for a few hours now, but no change. I'll check it again tomorrow and hopefully, maybe when it's warmed up a bit more I'll be able to get some def into the tank. Other than that, I'm out of ideas? |

Probably a sending unit issue. Of course, we've never seen a fuel tank gauge sending unit fail. ahem..   |

| I am not an expert but I am aware of what you might be running into. The DEF can freeze into a gel at about 12 F now one might not think that can happen cause you are in garage for a short time etc etc. However if the DEF lines are exposed to freezing condtions while driving say a combination of 15-20 F actual temperature and then traveling at say 30-35 mph the wind chill effect will drive the actual fluid pipe much colder than 12 F. Imagine you are at Packers game with your DEF gallon its 20 F and then the wind picks to 25 -35 mph then the wind chill will be in range of 0 5 - 10 F bingo you get jello def. Also remember once you have jello in your lines it is slow to get back over the 12 F to liquid. Based of what I have read all winter the warm weather folks have far fewer issues than cold regions hope this sheds some light JB |

| The bus is sitting at our GMC dealer this week, hopefully they can figure it out.It seems like the front end of the bus doesn't know what the back end is doing! The last time I topped off the tank was at 1500 miles, so at 4500 it should have needed the DEF, but it still wouldn't take any. AOn the other hand, we've been very lucky, (knock on wood) with our DEF'd C2's. Mine has 4k and it's twin is up to almost 9k and not a lick of trouble on either one. Ahhh. technology |

Not sure about the GM(C), but most DEF lines are insulated & electrically heated. |
