Hi, I have a CE300 with a lighting problem. The marker, clearance and tail lights all go off together at times. I replaced the headlight switch assembly. No codes using logic builder. The dash is lit, along with the driver's control panel when the other lights are inoperable.
Anyone have this problem?
Thanks. |

| eicsbus is spot on here. Happens fairly frequently in my neck of the woods too. I usually start where the harness comes down from the overhead at the rear wall. |

jwreame and eicsbus,
Thanks for your suggestions. The short was actually at the right front corner of the bus at the quick disconnect for the headlight assembly, rubbed through on a stud. The mirror wires had been zip tied to the harness pulling it down toward the stud.
Through this process I did learn some about my DLB program and the "virtual fuses" in the body computer. The clearance lights have a resettable breaker, but are also protected by the virtual fuses, so I was able to eliminate them from consideration. The tail lights and marker lights are only protected by the virtual fuses. I stumbled across the shorted wire, repaired it, and the bus is back in service.
At your suggestion, (jwreame and eicsbus), I did start at the locations you stated and found wires nearly rubbed through at the transition down at the top of the bulkhead. I placed a sleeve there for protection. The bus would have been back very soon with another problem without your help, thanks!
When the short was active, the lights would flicker twice with the cycling of the key, this must have been the virtual fuses in action...
Now I wonder why the clearance lights are protected by a breaker and the body computer, but not the other lights? |
