What does your district do in recognition of School Bus Safety Week?

When I was in school, what we used to do was have the students draw something relating to what they thought of school bus safety, and they would then be taped to the ceilings of the buses. And then, at the end, the MCTC (Mason County Trans. Co-Op) would select the best, and then the student who drew the best pic got an award. After that, the winning drawing was duplicated and placed on all of the buses, including MTA's (Mason Transit Authority) transit buses.

Food works! Until last year I provided either breakfast or lunch for at least 150+ from the transportation department and nearby warehouse, grounds and maintenance folks. The last meal cost me over $600, so I took a break for awhile. Maybe this year I'll do it again.
We always purchase unique pins each year with "OUSD School Bus Driver Appreciation."

It's a great event to happen......but I've never heard of it! We've never done a holiday or something in our district to show appreciation for school buses, school bus safety, or the drivers. Well, not that I know of....

I remember there was a School Bus Driver's Appreciatiton Day at my middle school in a district I used to live in. When the buses unloaded the students in the morning at the school, someone (a student from student council I think) went on to each of the bus driver's buses and offered him/her coffee and/or a pastry or assorted baked goods. They would tell the driver that it was "Bus Driver Appreciation Day" and they would say thank you for your hard work, time, and dedication throughout the school year (in so many words).
That was the one and only time I saw this done. That was the only year I went to that middle school in that district, so I have no idea if it is still traditional to do this. I think they did it during the month of October (during School Bus Safety Week), but I'm not too too sure on that. In all the other districts I have been to, I have not seen this done.

The city of Green Bay recently went to a full warning lights policy, and we took the oppurtunity to go on the local news and let the public know. We discussed the new policy and other saftey issues. We have already recieved alot of positive feedback on this!

Yonkers, NY doesn't have a city transportation, we have private contractors. However, nothing is ever done for School Bus Safety Week. I'm trying to have a school bus cleaning celebration though!

We had ours in October and is done only once a year! I feel that we should do this 3 times a year! You never know when you mite be in a situation to use your plan of evacuating your bus! The more you do it the better you'll be!

This is focused at the elementary level, of course, and has a different theme every year. The kids all do posters reflecting the theme. Awards are given to the finalists selected by a panel of judges with the winner's poster printed on the school bus safety flier for the next year. Some of the designs are really amazing!
