I have to drop off students from one school, and be at another school to transfer students to the third school on my route. Problem is, our town is under heavy road construction, and this make me late getting to 2nd school, and of course late for the 3rd one. Problem at the 3rd school is there are transfers to other busses, and they end up waiting for me every day, and I end up holding them up for their next runs. They could just have one of the busses at the 2nd school bring the students over to the 3rd school, getting the students there on time, or send another bus over there. But my boss seems to want me to run accross town to get them. He does not seem to care that I am holding up a lot of busses. This has been going on since last year. The year before I could make it okay, but then they added a lot of extra stops, and more streets to cover, so it is impossible to make it on time.

mousemeat that happens here too. We have a boss that is able to drive and help us out but she won't. So this is want we do or I just take your time get your kids were they need to go safely and the more the other driver complains. that's is what going to help you out. That my sound mean but sometime that's what it takes to get all of you together if you no what i mean.

Just tell your boss/supervisor to go do it and if they can do it, fine, you can too...but if they CAN NOT, then you can't either! Our drivers sometimes have to get our supervisor out of the office to see that somethings can't be done. Most of the time he rides and actually sees what the driver is talking about and makes the changes.

Since my boss is at the 3rd school most of the time while the busses are there, he already knows that I can't make it on time. Once I start holding up 3 to 5 busses a couple of days, I think this will be what will help me. Thanks for your concern. Nice to see I am not the only one who works for a boss like mine.

I just want to clarify something here. There are other busses who could be at the 2nd school to get my transfers. My boss chooses not to use them.

Mousemeat like i said in my first letter. Take your time, make sure you get your kids their safe. Yes I do have a boss like that, and it's one of two things that they do. ONE, they don't like you and want you to quit. TWO, Their just waiting for you to make a mistake so they can ride you and make your life misable so you quit. Or you have something on them. Because, I have seen it happen. This is want blow's me away "WE HAVE A SHORTAGE OF DRIVERS"....Figure that one out. Sometimes when people get into the place of being a boss the POWER GOES TO THEIR HEADS..... BigDog-4

Why not put all the students waiting for you on only on of the waiting buses be an option? That would allow the other bueses to leave.

Has your "boss" told you why dispersing the students to other buses is not an option?

My Boss is fully aware there are other busses who could do this. We have busses sitting at the 3rd school, that get there way before I do, that could get them, as well as the one that is already at the 2nd school. The only reason, that I can think of, as to why it's not an option to send another bus, is because this is the way he wants it, not the way it should be.

Sometimes, the way it should be would be the easy way, but that would'nt be fun right for the boss. Can some of the other buses just take the kids for you on their own? There are alot of times we as drivers just take it upond our selves to help each other out. Sence were the ones that are out there. I have a route that I take town and country and on Tuesday's I'm over loaded,I have JR high min-day and also we have kids that go to church and I'm over loaded, and one of the driver's that goes to another school to pick-up kids well take my overload and then go get her kid's. Her route is short, it take's 15min for her to take my overload. And by the way where did you come up with mousemeat?

My dad gave me mousemeat as a nickname. Come to think of it, (I just now made the connection) he was with Walt Disney when they showed "Steamboat Willie". Maybe that is how he came up with it.

My boss could send other drivers over to pickup those kids, but he seems to not want this to happen. We have radios, and can and do have other drivers help us, and he knows this, but for some reason, has chose to do it this way. I get the feeling he does not want to help me.

Hi Carrie
I have seen a lot of good advise here just drive to the three schools in a safe and sane manner. I spent 20 years in the Air FORCE and sometimes the bos has his reasons for doing something a certain way and you just have to accept this simple philloshy
"MINE IS NOT TO REASON WHY MINE IS JUST TO DO OR DIE" It also may mean that your boss has a lot of confadence in you. I suspect its the confadence thing.

Mousemeat, are you on good relations with your boss? what I meen to say, do you and he get along? If you do I agree with the last gentalman, he could think that you can do the the job and he has all the confadence in the world in you. From what it sounds like to me its the latter. He believes in you.Whatever he thinks really doesn't matter in the scheme of things you just keep doing the best job you can, because we have one of the most important jobs there is.Keep going......... Let's just say my boss and I don't always see eye to eye. Being a union shop, at least I have that advantage, and have had to use it. He is just using the fact the he is the boss to act this way. In other words, once you prove him wrong, you are on his bad side.

I'd follow the boss' instructions. If they continue to have a problem with the route changes will have to be made. Sometimes a little constructive criticism (on a one to one basis only, so you don't make anyone "look" bad) is in order. Be positive, don't walk in the office yelling and screaming, you'll get nowhere. Present your side of the circumstances effectively and you'll be surprised what you can get done to help your situation. Hope it works, good luck!!

Thank goodness your union, at least you have some backing. As for us we don't, like I said before some bosses just go over broad, and that is really bad. Because it make's life hard on both of you mainly you. I don't know maybe do what Wagonmaster said you know your boss. As for were I'm at, my boss only gives in once in a blue moon But I have seen her ride a Driver and follow her on her routes waitting for her to make a mistake, and that Driver is no longer work's for us, and she made sure that her Bus license was taken away so she couldn't work for any other school distict..... That's bad

UPDATE:

Monday I was barely able to make it to the 3rd school, but traffic was really light. The last 2 days, traffic is getting worse. I had to hold up the busses, about 16 or so, for a couple of minutes. Each time 3 girls missed getting to theirs because the busses had pulled. The parents have called in, not pleased. I wonder how long this will go on before someone gets the message.

NEW UPDATE

Well, after trying everything, they finally took the 2nd school off my route. Now the bus that is already there, for the younger students, brings them over. They finally can get to their transfer busses on time. I feel better about these kids now. At least I know they will get home okay. Thanks for all the kind responses.

Just for the record I would follow the directions of my supervisor. Your still getting paid to drive your route according to his or her desicisions. If there is a conflict with other schedules or pick ups it is not your job to try to solve or resolve them! Simply tell anyone with a discrepency to call your transportation office and report it and let management solve their own problems as that is what they are paid for.
