| I don't know that this is the forum to bring up this subject, but if this message can reach just one child, I hope I can HELP! A 13 year old boy at our school took his life yesterday. From what I understand, his home life was very bad. His friends say that he always put on a very good front even though some of them knew how bad things where. I have heard that over the past week, he said that he wanted to end his life. None of his friends thought he would. Or could. But he did. I have a thirteen year old of my own. It breaks my heart to think this child could feel so alone and desparate to take his life. I beg my children to please tell me, a teacher, our priest, or anyone who will listen, if any kid would even mention such an act of desparation. I can't imagine how alone this young boy felt. I only wish that someone could have reached him before it was to late. Please take the time to tell your kids and their friends how much you care about them and that YOU care. I know that I will never let a day go be with out telling mine. I'm sorry to bring such a sad story to you, but we all need to prepare ourselves, because you never know what could happen. Sincerely, Rookiedriver |

My heart goes out to all involved in this. Tell your children as much as you can to always tell, and try to watch for the signs yourself because some kids will not tell. I recommend www.yellowribbon.org for information for all interested in learning how to watch for the signs of suicide, there's lots of stuff there.
Once again my heart goes out to all involved. Thanks to rookiedriver for posting this...yes, one child is worth it.

| Rookiedriver, that's thoguhtful of you. That's such a sad thing. Suicide at any age is awful, but at 13, I just don't understand. I lost a friend to suicide in high school, he was 16 and another friend at 16 too. Don't be sorry about bringing a sad story, it's reality and maybe caring people like you will make a difference. |

Amtran, I'm sorry that you lost a friend at such a young age. It is hard at any age, but teenagers have so many issues to deal with. It must be an extrememly difficult loss to overcome. I don't know how long it has been since your friends have passed, but the "yellowribbon" site that CountGirl suggested has been very helpful to me. Thank you CountGirl. I went to that site and found loads of information. I'm considering introducing the Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Program to the staff and parents at our schools. I'm gathering litterature and information about the program to submit at our next Board Meeting. Thank you for your help. I feel that there is a need to get young people to talk about their depression. To many people keep those dark feelings hidden away, when there is help available. Thank you and God bless you! That's very sad. I think if kids could grasp the idea that dead means forever-they might think twice before doing that.

Sure! I'll pick your kid up closer to the house... Widen your front door!

This is really sad. I had a young lady a few years ago that rode my bus who was to enter high school. It seems that during the summer she got mixed up with drugs and alchol. The day before school was to start she stepped in front of a train. Her younger step brother also rode my bus to this day I think he still hurts. He is now in high school.
Help is always available in these situations it just that most of us do not know how to recognize it until its to late. |
