Chapter 37 is a Federal dealing with removing a disruptive student from your bus, classroom, and includes special needs students. There are two ways decreationary and mandatory. Where can I get a copy of this law? Also does everyone know about the law if you have a CDL and are involved in a traffic accident and the police are called whether your fault or not it is automatic 2 points on your license? Your school district is suppose to have a committee in place to revies your points and they can chose to ignore the ones not you fault? Is this a low everywhere or just Texas?
In Arizona any CDL driver who gets a traffic ticket after Sept. 25 can no longer go to Defensive driving school to have the points dropped. the people at the state motor vehilces dept. said that this was a last minute add on to the Law passed for the "S" endorsement. That is a new law for all CDL drivers everywhere. You can no longer take defensive driving for a ticket gotten in your bus or car. This law about the points can hurt someone very bad and cause them to loose their license. We are trying to get it repealed but need survey from other states. Thanks for you comments.
Thanks for the link it is what I was looking for. You are not told this because knowledge give us power and knowing more than your boss is sometimes not a good thing. This law also impowers teachers and the school district is suppose to give them a copy of the law but that doesn't happen either. Thanks again.
Hope it is helpful. I never knew about this law either until I read the thread recently and did some research. There is is also a law about capacity of buses based on the size of the bus and size of the students. But it is no adhered to. That is why many districts don't put seatbelts in buses. Seatbelts are a gray area because they can cause worse injury sometimes, but I heard in some states they have them. However, if there were seatbelts on all buses, then the district would have to adhere to the capacity allowances. They would not be able to sit three adult sized students in one seat without the one hanging in the aisle. Some districts so some illegal stuff if it is advantagous to them. The schools do a lot of illegal stuff and get away with it because supposedly a city cannot be sued.
Safety should be a factor on all buses. The department heads in a lot of areas seem to think that the driver brings a lot on him/herself. In some places, they always try to pin the blame on the driver since school bus drivers don't need a degree, it puts them low man on the totem pole. But that degree does not mean diddly squat when it comes to safety.

All sorts of similar laws are popping up around the country. The driver shortage is worsening and these kinds of laws should help increase the shortage. Isn't that brilliant? What angers me is the PTS in my state said not a word against it when it was under legislative consideration. Not a word! The excuse given me was if they fought it they would have been be blown out of the hearings. So they didn't bother trying? Isn't that special? (jk)
