Hey edselman!!

Welcome to the Forums. I used to live in Boulder City, just outside of Las Vegas for about a year and a half. I am sure glad you're a member on here. I've been waiting for someone from that area to become a member of these Forums!!

I visited Las Vegas this past July and got plenty 'o pictures from the bus lot that they have on Russell Road. I think that they have a total of 3 bus yards for the whole district (the whole district is around the same size as my state of MA)!!

Well anyway, it was great to be back there and see those beautiful pieces of equipment running around. What bus do you ride on? Or are you one of those unlucky kids that has to walk to school. When I lived there I rode on 94825, 93838, (both Blue Bird TC/2000 FE's and on 89819 (which is a Blue Bird All-American FE--I rode on this while 93838 was in the shop). I must say, all of my drivers were great, and so were the buses!!

I am just very happy to see that someone from that area joined these Forums. I also heard that they got the brand-new '02 Saf-T-Liner HD's there for this year. I would think that they ordered about 100 or so of those. They are 90 passenger models. Did they buy the BB TC/2000's again for their wheelchair lift/handicapped buses?? I know they started buying those again back in '00...but the last time they had bought them was back in '94.

Hey Jason...I don't think Clark County School District has a transportation website. I have tried looking for one, but haven't found one. I know that they just have one for the school district (mainly filled with stuff about their educational and school system out there), but I would certainly be happy to fill you in on what they have for equipment and what's been going on there...since I was there for 2 weeks this past July, and I did live there. (I'm sure edselman would like chattin with ya too.)

Anyways, it's great to meet you edselman. Please feel free to drop me a line or two so we can chat some more about Russell Road, and all of Clark County School District's AWESOME equipment!!

I know they got some great equipment. Aren't all their buses equipped with a/c? On the School Bus Explorer website, I seen a pic of a Thomas Saf-T-Liner and an All-American FE from Clark County Schools. I'll give you the link if you want. They were some NICE looking buses! And I heard Nevada specs dual stop arms, like Florida.

Let me first start off by saying that the buses out there in NV are much different than these here in MA. I LOVED living out there!! I also enjoyed my vacation very much. I made it out to the nearest bus lot about 4 times while I was there. Also, since they have year-round schools out there, I also saw the buses out and about!!

I will scan you some of the pics when I do get some time. I have TONS of pictures from there and I will get to it, just please bear with me...I will get to it sooner or later!

They do have AWESOME equipment. I love everything they have. They only use the very best!! They also have a very hard-working, dedicated maintenance crew. They have two shifts. One for the daytime crew and one for the nighttime crew. I believe that all of the drivers wear uniforms (at least they did when I lived there). They have the school district's badge on it, as well as their photo ID card. Also, a little tag is posted on the dashboard of the bus to remind the driver of when the bus is supposed to go in for its service.

They certainly spec out a lot of nice options besides a/c for their buses. Their buses are loaded with all the good stuff!! I believe that MOST, IF NOT ALL, of their buses have been equipped with a/c since about 1986. Before that, they just had white roofs and tinted windows. I remember seeing thier '78 All-American FE's that had the regular non-tinted windows, no white roof, and no a/c either!! It gets pretty hot out there in the desert. However, I did ride on an '89 All-American FE while the '93 TC that I rode on was in the shop. This '89 must have been a spare because it had a white roof, but it did not have a/c at all...and it did not have tinted windows, yet I have seen '86 buses that do have tinted windows and a/c.

They do have VERY NICE buses out there, as I have already mentioned. They also use the dual-stop arms. I believe they have been using these ever since the early-'80's at the latest. But I know that their '78 buses did not have dual-stop signs (if my memory serves me correctly. I haven't seen a '78 bus there since '94...and at that time it was about to be retired).

Since about '96 or '97, they have been using the LED type stop signs for both their stop arms. This type of stop sign is the one where the word "STOP" lights up with LED's, and these stop signs don't have the 2 alternate-flashing red lights on it, just the word "stop" that lights up with LED's. I think they are very nice stop signs and they provide easier readability, and they seem to get noticed easier and more effectively by other drivers. If you have any other questions, or if you would like to know what other type of equipment that they spec out for their buses out there, please let me know, and I will try to list as much of the equipment that they spec out as I know. (It was sure great to see them once again this past July!! )
