Being new to the school districts having worked for contractors over the last 10yrs. What is the usual % raise per year for Transportation Directors/Supervisors that you have recieved? I'm going into negotiations soon.

In our district, the only ones that negotiate are the teachers. When they settle, everyone else normally gets the same overall percentage as what the teachers received. They have bumped a few categories, like bus drivers, because they felt they were lagging the times. Without looking back to make sure, I would say that for the last seven years it has averaged in the 3 to 5 per cent a year range.

For us it varies from 2-5%. If we have to settle for a 2% raise for one or even two years in a row, after that they will usually try and give us a 4-5% raise to try and make up for it. With the current budget crisis in Michigan I can guarantee we won't be seeing a 4-5% increase for a couple years.

I believe it would depend on the district and how they operate from within. Perhaps ask around to other program directors and see what they recommened or advise.
I agree with Thomas86a. Most districts start out with an annual increase of at least 3%.

We usually get the same amount or a percent or two less than teachers do, and that's 3-5%. If we started at the same salary as a teacher, they would be making more than we would, giving the same length of service, etc. Classroom stuff comes first, including salary in our district, and that's really not a bad thing, given our mission. Some tough budget years we get nothing, but those are fairly rare. Joe

MAdison Elementary School District In Phoenix is the only district in Arizona that gives the classified employees a pay for performance bonus. This year we recieved a 5% across the board pay increase as well as a $1200 performance bonus. 99% of all classified employees recieved this and you had to be pretty bad in order to not get yours. the main requirement was that you must of been employed by the district between certian dates and meet certian criteria on your evaluations. In my Department 4 staff memebrs did not get one.(1 driver, 3 attendants). the $1200 is paid $600 in September and $600 in December. We are now working on our plan for this next year and I understand that the pay will be increased according to what the Certified staff gets. The Certified staff gets thier performance pay according to state law and the Proposition 102 tax that was approved by the voters. Our School Board decided last year to pay the classified staff the same as teachers but the money comes from the M&O budget. But as I said we are the only district in Arizona that has done this for thier employees. We also are the only school district in Arizona that did not have to ask for State building funds to repair or build new schools. We also get $150 a semester for Perfect Attendance. Ya i guess We are pretty Lucky and It might end any time but we'll take as it comes to us. By the way Madison is in the North Central part of Phoenix and we have all kinds of mixed Housing but no real taxable businesses so we are kinda tax poor. PHW, It isn't common to see raises based on performance. Last year it was in our teachers contracts that if the MEAP (Michigan Educational Assessment Program) scores were above state average in our district they would each get a $500 bonus.

There are certain members of this forum who believe management individuals are not being held responsible for there actions. Could not being held accountable for performance be a factor in these problems.
