What are your fleet guidelines for percentage of spares.

My spare ratio is 10% of the total fleet.

We have three spares and 9 route buses. 8 routes and one vo-tech. While 25% seems a bit high, when you consider that two buses can be gone for just one atheltic event it's really not that high. It's basically because we are so small.

If we have a bus regularly used for charter or field trips it is not considered a spare.

Criteria for spares vary from fleet to fleet.

Ten percent is a reasonable figure and what we maintain.

Our District has 3 special needs spares and 1- 84 passenger spare. We also have our team travel bus available for use as a spare if we need it (it is a 63 pass Blue Bird AARE)
Sometimes I wish we had more, but we make do with what we have for our 25 routes.(7 Sp.Needs and 18 regular routes)
