Hey everyone,
I have a question regarding what your district's policy is regarding the transportation of students during emergencies. In our district since everyone student is provided with transportation we don't have issues other than slight overcrowding on early dismissals or other emergencies. However, districts that don't regularly provide transportation to all students (which is a sizeable majority) are faced with challenges. Suppose schools are closed due to harsh weather or other situations where it may be dangerous to allow kids to walk? In a district nearby that normally does not bus all students there was a change in policy for a day-early dismissal one afternoon and the weather was so incredibly cold that every student got a bus ride (where the extra seats came from I can't say). Do districts sign emergency contracts to have ready? In other words, Laidlaw would be standing by to transport the students normally not buses? I was just wondering how this worked in other areas-as I've said for my home district it wouldn't be an issue but I could see it getting very challenging for other districts (the Rochester City school system closed one morning since there was no way it could provide transportation for the 15,000 students who normally walk, and the weather was so bitterly cold). Do any of your districts have policies/plans for this?
