Ohio requires school bus drivers to be fingerprinted every 2 years. I think that's kinda dumb because a person's fingerprints aren't likely to change. What's also silly (stupid, rather) is that we're the only school employees to have to do this. Cafeteria workers don't, and they prepare the food the kids eat. Teachers don't, and they are with the kids all day. I think first of all, if we should be fingerprinted, so should everyone else. Second, I think every two years is a bit excessive.
Is there a legit reason for this, or is it just a bunch of silly politics?
It's BIG, it's YELLOW, it has RED FLASHING LIGHTS. What part didn't you see?

I agree. What a waste of money that could be spent elsewhere! Criminal background checks can be done regularly, and drivers license checks too, but fingerprints? Doesn't really make sense.

In New York we fingerprint before hire to do backgroud checks. We have to do a license abstract every year. NYSDMV notifies us by mail of any convictions during the year.

In N.J., the new fingerprinting laws require drivers to renew fingerprints every 4 years (or at the time of renewal of the CDL) The only complaints I have heard from my employees are that since the state of N.J. has hired a private company to do the fingerprinting, drivers have to travel to have the fingerprints, rather than just go to the municipal court of their town, and also the cost has gone up from the former $10.00 per fingerprinting to $63.00.

Welcome to the forums, Vincent! 
I'm just curious, what buses do you use in your fleet? Do you use a lot of Van Con or US Bus, since they are a local manufacturer?
One other thing. I find it kind of stupid to do fingerprinting every 4 years. Fingerprints never change!!! That fee is very high.

63 dollars???!!! That is INSANE!!! And I thought the $20 I had to pay was bad. Yeesh. Maybe there's some sort of conspiracy with the schools and the places that do the fingerprints...

I'm also from NJ, and I couldn't believe it when they told me how much they paid to get finger prients. If there's a way to charge more money NJ will find it

This is entirely incorrect. The State of Ohio does not required fingerprints to be taken every two years - that is quite possibly a policy of your local district or contractor.
Fingerprinting is required as a pre-employment measure for all public school employees, and is again required every SIX years for the bus driver re-certification process.
It is not a question of whether your fingerprints change (haha) but the fact that if a crime is committed during those six years, the district often has no way of knowing about it. The fingerprinting ensures that the employees are all on the "up-and-up."
Hope this clarifies the apparent confusion.
