Has anyone ever had a problem with drivers going over the legal limit of hours.Do you regulate drivers hours by DOT regs or school policy.I have cases of drivers doing field trips during the day and then taking sports trips in the evenig. With the shortage it's hard to get enough people to go around

I run a public school fleet and when it snows here many of my drivers fill in as snow plow operators and work through the night for the public works dept.
My advice to drivers is based on timing.
If the storm is likely to end early and school will open they are to stop at 12:00 midnight and go home to rest. If the storm goes all night and school will most likely be called off, they use their own discretion.
But all C.D.L. drivers are governed by the same rules regarding hours on and off.
Rarely will they ever be enforced unless there is an accident and than the driver will be held accountable.
