I have a DUI conviction from Illinois in 1983. Will that automatically disqualify my bus driver application in Nevada? All opinions are greatly appreciated!

I think that district and state requirements are different wherever you go, but our district will not consider anyone with a DUI conviction, regardless of date. It seems like a tough policy, and it is! However I'd rather have to explain it to you than to the parents of an injured child, or to a jury when an attorney asks why we hired someone with that history, regardless of how long ago. You could certainly drive in our district in another arena, just not transporting children. Sorry.

I believe you'd have a good shot at gaining employement as a driver, consult an attorney if you REALLY want the job.

I have a question for you, p15tb4...
You mentioned Nevada. Which county will you be applying for? There are essentially 2 counties in the whole state that use more than 4 school buses: Clark County (southern Nevada) and Washoe County (northern Nevada).
All of the other counties in the state won't nearly have as many buses as Washoe or Clark County. Most of the other counties have no more than 4-10 school buses.
Just curious. I do have a Nevada state CDL book, I will try to remember to dig it up and look through it for you.
If you're considering employment at Clark County, I do know some things about that county. For starters, the state minimum amount of school bus driver training is 20 hours. Clark County requires 40 hours.
They have a great operation going down there!!

Even though you have had a clean record from that incident in 1983... I'm afraid that most school bus driving corporations wouldn't hire you, unless you really convince them. Many states have laws blocking those with DWI or DUI from driving a school bus.

I belive if you went through the ARD alchol program and have a clean record for 10 years the conviction is removed from your record. Should everyone who has ever driven with alchol in their system be banned from driving a school bus or just the ones that were caught?
