Yep, that's been a terrible problem. There are a bunch of units they have extended the warranty for those components out to 10 years or I think 175,000 miles they were so bad.
I was joking with a parts supplier rep the other day that if they could come up with a DEF head and valves that aren't complete trash, they could make millions. |

| I was told the DEF systems are guaranteed for 5 years. We have had quite a few go bad and let the dealer fix them |

Folks, be sure to verify your unit doesn't qualify for the extended coverage before dropping coin on these items. I got a mailing with big list of VINs back in the fall, the oldest being built in 2017 with the JB series VIN that extended certain items to 10 years/185,000 miles.
I have no idea what the official production start and end dates were, but it's already paid for 4 that would otherwise have been our problem. |

| We had a system crap out and the dealership replaced on their dime. I talked to the tech and he told me one company was making the DEF systems That company went bankrupt because of having to pay for repairs. Another company started up and are installing better systems |

| We have 275 IC buses, 2016 to current. The DEF Headers have been a HUGE problem. So far, we've not had to buy one, but I know it's coming. To be fair, we've also replaced many Thomas Headers, but nothing like the IC's. |

All of ours were traced back to those stupid coolant valves failing in the open position. If I remember correctly they replaced with a new style and had to update the ECM to understand what to do with them.
Remember back in 2008 when all we heard was how great these DPF/DOC/DEF things were going to be, and how they would last 500,000 miles, so we had NOTHING to worry about....HA |
