I know this belongs in the "news" area of the forum but wanted to have you all discuss it here. I like this "mayoral candidate's" heart but I wonder if it is lawful for this child to be transported to and from school in a van? I know it is unlawful to do that in Illinois (where I live).

In MI we use vans and suburbans a lot. They are our primary means for transporting our homeless kids who are out of district. we can use a vehicle with seating up to 10, anything over that has to be a school bus.

State laws are all different. In my opinion, students should be in a school bus, not a white vehicle. Just my opinion.

I believe in Iowa, if the school arranged the transportation for a wheelchair bound student it would need to be in a yellow bus. I don't believe there is any rule that would stop the parent from getting the child to school in van with a lift. The question would be did the arrangement offer go through the school or to the parent?

Why yes, the ORIGinal CHARGER is a Fastback

In Ohio you can transport special needs, homeless and alternative school type of kids in a van. There are rules and regs about that van and who drives it that I won't bore you all with. Now, that's all rules for a school system or contractor.

If some guy wants to use a van and transport someone's child, and the parent is ok with it...that is their business...we can't control, nor should we control that.

Would be neat to know if this was arranged via the school or not.
