I have been a manager for a private school bus company and currently serve as Transportation Director in a public school system. My experience is that on the private side my job description was more diverse than in a school setting. I wore more hats as a private manager, which also leads to fast burn-out! School districts tend to mainatin a more adequate staff in the office which allows the Director or Supervisor to focus more on the department and delegate to qualified people in established positions who, for example, do the hiring and training oversight and other tasks that I did regularly as part of my duites in the private sector. I am grateful for the various experiences I had on the private side of this business, but very glad to be back in a school setting!
