Out of curiosity does any district provide a car for the transportation director/manager/supervisor to travel in? This car would have a radio/gps etc in it and would be used to transport the admin to schools when neccessary, to follow the drivers around for observation and to test out routes. Does the district provide a car or do the supervisors use their own? Just wondering.
Getting them there is the first-and the easiest/hardest-part. |

Yes. We provide a car for the Director and Assistant Director(s). We have such a large county in area, the mileage reimbursement costs more than the cars and maintenance. In addition, and probably more important, we can go straight to wherever business takes us on a particular day instead of wasting time going to the office first to pick up a vehicle. We can respond to an accident site quickly, and generally conduct business in an efficient manner. Most directors in the state have vehicles for these, and other reasons. Joe

We have a Dodge Pick-up that he has to use (Our Supevisor). It is bright blue which isn't the easiest to hide when you are trying to hide to catch speeding buses. All he has in it is a cell phone.Nothing fancy. We only have one person to run 143 buses total. They are trying to get me hired to help him out this summer. But yes they provide a Dodge Pick-up.

The owner of the company and manager of our company both have SUV's to drive. The owner has a 2002 Chevy Blazer that is white and on both sides it has "Monark Student Transportation" written on it. And the manager has a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer and it's called the "Saftey Bug"
What next will happen in this crazy circus?! |

Our district has a 1/2T Chevy pickup that our T/D can use. He must share it with our mechanics. The truck is rigged out with a toolbox, an amber strobe, and has a rig on the front that lets them hook up a set of jumper cables without opening the hood.

We have a couple of bright orange Dodge and Chevy pickups that are used by mechanics, and there is also a 80's sedan (I forgot the make ) that is dark red and has the Unicoi County Board of Education logo on the side. Silas J.

A service vehicle should contain any equipment neccessary in an emergency (batteries, stop signs, flags, First Aid etc) as well as any business materials it's user will need. When our director follows buses I believe he has some equipment (a radar gun, maybe) that assists him in his car, but nothing too special.

We have 3 supervisors and all of them have company vehicles. Director drives '00 Ford Explorer XL ; Route Supervisor drives a '95 Ford F-150 XL and Safety Coordinator drives an '89 Chevy Blazer. Some of our mechanics have trucks, too.

We have a station wagon and a SUV for department use. Everything from transporting one to three students to taking it for out of town meetings and seminars. All of the departments have access to these vehicles upon request. If both vehicles are busy then the Supervisor oan/or Head Driver/Trainer use thier own cars. Our mechanices have a used 4WD Ambulance for thier parts/service truck.

Most Directors are provided a vehicle for business use, check streets in bad weather, etc.
We also have a Ford Explorer for use of the Department staff for business purposes.
