Ive been driving for 17 yrs now and I along with some other drivers are in a situation and we are wondering if we are alone.
We are having to haul 3 and 4 yr old kids on the same bus at the same time with 18 and 19 yr old high school kids and all ages in between. We complain only to be told either haul them or quit. My question is how can we be made haul kids on busses that dont meet head start requirements? No child seats, no two way communication, no seat belts, no monitors. They are carried on busses by the other kids because they are so small they can't even get up the steps of the bus.We are told that the state has given special permission for this to happen. How can the state grant waviers to the federal laws? These kids are on some of the busses for over the 1 hr. at a time each way. We need other responses please..

My question is: does your T/D know you are supposed to have an aide/monitor? Get a copy of the law about transporting headstart children and give it to him. Then ask for an aide, and see what he says. I'd like to think that he would see the liability issue and get you an aide as fast as possible. I'm going to try somthing like that myself.

hey kd4jfd:
TO answer your question.. YES he knows about it and his response is there's nothing I can do about it, take it up with the superintendant and the school board..They have special permission from the state department for this to happen..
