Lots of ice coming our way. No school today and I don't think we are going to have school the rest of the week by the looks of the forecast. St. Louis (about 100 miles west of us) is giving 1/2" to 3/4" of ice followed by sleet then 12"-16" of snow. I guess they are expecting as much as two feet just to the north of St. L. For us they are calling for as much as 3/4" of ice then 3"-6" of snow followed by 25 to 40 MPH winds. I remember the early eighties when we were without power for three weeks. With all that ice and the wind there is no way the power lines will take all that. If there are any old poles out there these conditions will find them. Wonder if this will be the same as back then?
How about the rest of you guys, are you in school here in the mid-west or are you toughing it out? |

| We're 70 miles northwest of Des Moines. No ice but snow and blow, let out at 12:30 because of it. |

| No ice here in Kentucky, but we are getting extremely strong wind gusts and rain. Schools still in session, naturally. However just a little north of us in So. Indiana, there were a lot of districts delayed or closed due to the ice yesterday. |

Another 2hr delay here today. Ice and freezing rain. we are about 15 miles south Philadelphia.
I have run out of places to put the snow in the lot. Hope that it warms up and rains and melts some snow. |

Snow, snow and more snow for Portland, ME. We had 5" Tuesday and they still had school. Got another 8" Wednesday but they cancelled that one. Haven't seen this much snow cover in several years. Three more storms lined up in the next week.
We need a thaw! |

Well, we got our ice! About 3/4" is what I can measure on all the tree limbs around here. The ground had much more than that, it just kept raining. We didn't fair too bad, it did blow but there were only a few tree limbs down in the area plus some power lines. We had three little towns out of electricity for about 48 hours, all three are back on now. We still have a few scattered homes w/o electric. Our drivers take their busses home, some called and said they did not have electric to plug them in. With temps below 10 we might have trouble starting them. Some drivers got their buses started today but couldn't get the stop sign and crossing arm to come out. Still other drivers had parents calling to get an idea if we were going to go so they could make plans to go back to their cold home for supplies to get ready for school. We decided to cancel. Looks like we are the boarder line though, serverl north are out but most south are in tomorrow. All that was before the power came back on in those small towns anywhere from 2:30 to 5:30 pm.
My family camped out in my grandmother's home that we had a generator hooked up to at night. In the day time we rotated the generator between there, church, & my mother's home. We were concerned with pipes freezing mostly. The lowest we let it get was at church (about 43 at one point) My home has LP heat that doesn't require electric. I'm glad it's over, I don't know how my parents did it back in the early 80s with three weeks of this. I was just about 13 at the time so I didn't get in on the work. Thank the Lord for modern convienences. |

| I have to say it's amazing how infrequently the power goes out here nowadays. We haven't had so much as a power sag all winter, through all these snow storms, and the recent ice storm. We still occasionally lose it, but only up to a few hours at a time. I remember it going out much more frequently than it does now, when it was a good idea to actually have a generator working well. We gave our old generator to my grandfather a good 10 years ago, and he hasn't used it at all. We had gotten a fairly new Kawasaki generator. We haven't powered our house with that in a few years because we haven't had to, now it doesn't even work (no spark, we suspect an issue with the oil pressure sensor). If we could get spark, it would start right up. |

The blizzard hit here.
Told the drivers Tuesday afternoon, "See you Monday".
They had the rest of the week off.
Me? I fought the snow.
And the County was busy too.

| Cool picture! Have any more? I'll try to get some up of our ice, it wasn't pretty if you are in it but if you are viewing the pictures it is pretty neat to look at. |

| Great picture of that Ionia County truck. Do they still have that one old FLD112-SD? That was a great looking truvck in it's day. |
