We have three DT530E powered RE's that have failed due to piston scuffing. The longevity champ made it to 163,000.The old 504 Cummins that these replaced were better than that. The warranty time limit passed some time ago. $8,000 a shot for an inframe. Anybody here been able to get any help to soften the blow from Navistar? They do know about it being a chronic problem, it is in the dealer ISIS.

Good luck! Sometimes, depending on circumstances they will help. Their staff is good, the engines aren't what they once were, in my opinion. We have MANY DT466Es that never saw 163K before failure....

The truck dealer in our area where we have the motor work done is hurting badly, so no deals there. On the last invoice they charged over $12.00 for a can of WD-40.

And I'm sure they wonder why they are hurting for business.

If it helps soften the blow, the last one I had rebuilt was almost double what you paid, and that was two years ago, it also had about 170k miles on it and 2 months out of warranty.

The word I got from IC was the liner o-rings (which is what failed) have been updated.
