I am looking for a good program to list all bus riders in school. Name, address, phone#s etc. Really don't want a routing program, just student program to type in name and info will come up. Does anyone have a simple program?

In our school, Marty, that information is classified information that only school administrators, staff and bus drivers have access to.

I think the simplest program to use for these types of records, would be to use the Microsoft Excel spread sheet program. You can arrange rows and columns in a way that will customize the information you would like to keep. First, you must gather the information about each student. After you've gathered all of it, just transfer it to the spread sheet and save it. You can have a column for the name, a column for their address, phone number, school, etc., etc. I think that is as simple as you can get.

Try it and see if it works for you.

Microsoft Access would IMHO be a better fit for data. Exel is great for numbers and such but when it comes to information Access has it beat hands down. Look into taking a 1/2 day mini course to get you started or "Access for Dummies" (That's what I have, LOL) You can create forms for filling in information, generate reports, and so many other things. (Databases are one of My wierd obsessions, I love to manipulate the data.)

Smile, it makes people wonder what you're up to.

Your district probably already has such information in a database program. Some common ones are Student Information Systems (SIS) or SASE (I forgot what the acronym stands for). These programs usually have an "ad hoc" report writer feature - or they can dump select bits of each student record into a program like MS Access. Once the information you need is in a readable format your next challenge is to keep it updated. If you are directly connected to the live database, you are automatically updated. In most cases, though you will be maintaining a "slave" database, which somehow needs to compare itself to the real database and update itself accordingly.

What I said in a round about way - was to get in touch with someone in the department who maintains the student database. They can definitely get you what you need.
