I'm in the process of setting up and keeping track of all our training. We are located in New York state. I am having a devil of a time finding training for our mechanics. We run all Blue Birds. I am new to this game and I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Hi Norman, welcome to SBF Forums! I would start on my Bluebird distributor if I were you. If you are that dedicated to his product, he should want to make sure that you and your staff are trained well enough to properly maintain them. It is certainly to his advantage to help you in this regard. Contact your engine supplier and ask about available training. They may not be able to come to your shop, but may set up something at their facility for a portion of your mechanics at little or no charge to your district. Usually the brake or wheel seal manufacturers will do training in house for you and have folks that work for them to do just that. Many will provide some seal installation tools etc. for the opportunity!
If they won't cooperate with you, tell them how good the new Amtran and Thomas units look to you, and they might change their tune. Good luck!

Like Joe said, your Blue Bird dealer should give you any information you are in need of!What type of engines do you have in your fleet?

Norman, in addition to Wagonmasters recommendations, try your engine dealer / distributor, parts supplier, and your local Vocational school.
Most if not all of the parts manufactures
have training videos for purchase.
usually $35. to $75. each. Your mechanics could then watch them on their own schedule.

If you have some International chassis, they are always having different seminars and course on there products! Try the web site for these courses!

Norman, MGM Air Brake has a great training program that will certify your mechanics in air brakes. The info can be downloaded off of the computer. I don't have the web site right now but can get you that info if you are interested. Start calling some of the local parts vendors that you deal with. Mention to them that you are interested in mechanic training coarses on items like brakes, charging & starting systems, belts and so on. Tell them that you don't want it to be sales oriented but hands on training only. If your business is valuable to them they will do everything possilbe to help you out. I've put on some extensive training sessions in my district and have been involved now for five years with the State Training for School Bus Mechanics in my state. I'd be happy to send you any info that I have available to me. 435-645-5663 or email bbarker@parkcity.k12.ut.us. Your dealer will be able to provide you with specific training in areas related to BlueBird electronics, body construction, air systems, etc. and more. You can contact the New York Association for Pupil Transportation at www.nyapt.org NYAPT has some excellent programs for mechanics each year. It's also a great way to "network" for ideas and contacts.

I am not sure if your state has it but Ohio has the Ohio School Bus Mechanics Association. It is set up by region and each reagion has their own workshops. In addition there is two state workshops per year. If your state does not have the association maybe someone could look into starting it. For info you can contact www.osbma.org
