This may have been discussed but I haven't seen it so pardon me if I bring it up again. What is starting pay where you are employed and do you receive any benefits such as health insurance/partial or fully paid, paid snow days, attendence incentive bonus? Can you collect unemployment during hoidays when school is not in session? Are you working for a private contractor or school district and do you normally receive a raise each year and what is it? What is the average length of a normal work week with your assigned routes not including field trips etc. Thanks for your input.

at omaha east base we start at 12 an hour and are guaranteed 4 hours of pay a day. we receive 5 paid holidays which we vote on at the beginning of each school year, no snow days and no sick pay. We do receive unemployment for summer winter and spring break. Our attendance bonus is 25 every two weeks and at the end of the year we also receive a bonus on a point system for no accidents and attendance, every month we receive a 25 gift card for no accidents. raises are usually 25 or 50 cents but next school year will be more because they are eliminating the 25 gift card Our insurance is not paid but is offered to us Normal work week is 5 days but there is always extra for nights and weekends. This is at Omaha, Ne Laidlaw East Base we are contracted with Omaha Public Schools

We are right in the middle of our meet/confer negotiations for next year. Our staff currently is all full time with full medical benefits that the school district pays for. One of the items that is recommended is that the District upgrade our Medical Coverage and the District staff (Certified and Classified)voted to accept a lower raise if the district would pay for better coverage. This is something that the school board has stated they would approve as long as it doesnt cost more. Right now driver starting pay is $10.42. Our school district also pays the classified hourly staff $150.00 for perfect attendance each sememster. We also qualify for Arizona performance pay each year based on student test scores and that is another $500-$1000 to all classified employees who have been with the school district at least 1 year. Finally a note on the Medical insurance we have now it is Aetna HMO and really doesnt cover alot of stuff other than basic doctor stuff. Our new insurance coverage will be United health care and will cover pretty much 100% of everything so it should be a good trade off since we wont have to pay out of pocket for alot of little medical things like we do now. Thanks, Armando Cuellar, Madison Elem. Sch Dist #38, Phoenix Arizona.

Here in Ridgefield, CT starting pay is $16.00/hr.
Full union benefits (free health/dental/vision insurance for individual employees and $50.00/month for family coverage). We have a pension plan also.
No paid snow days, but if enough in a row are called-we can collect partial unemployment.

$400.00 yearly perfect attendance bonus, $350.00 yearly accident-free bonus.
Yes, we collect during holidays (the ones that aren't paid holidays-we have 9 of them that are paid) and we collect during summer shutdown.

I work for a private contractor and I'm getting a $1.00 raise per year for the next three years. (I'm currently at the 19.00/hr rate.).

We are guaranteed a 30-hour week, not including charters and kindergarten runs. I work normally a 35-hour week.

Sure! I'll pick your kid up closer to the house... Widen your front door!

Well.....here's how the other half lives? I work for a small private contractor. After 15 years, I make less then $10/hr. The average raise is 20cents an hour. Two paid snow days were dropped in lieu of a perfect attendance bonus of about $400 a year. That was dropped and we were given a slightly higher raise. I pay the entire cost of my health insurance, single policy $3000. No sick or personal days, can collect unemployment when there is no school. Average about 35 hours a week. Working for a school district would be far better but you start on the sub list and wait a very long time till someone quits or retires, at least in this area. Co workers seem to be retired or have spouses with better paying jobs or they are subsidized and can afford to work at this wage and no worries over benefits as they get them for free.

Wow Kate, quit and come to AZ. My district starts of at $11.81 per hour and transfer in up to five years of experience. Most of the routes are six hour routes, (you can get forty hrs a week if you drive trips) so you get district paid benefits for yourself and at a premium for family. You also get 8 (I think?) paid holidays and one day of personal leave per month that you can accumulate; however, no unemployment per contract. We do; however, keep the drivers who want to work over the summer fairly busy. So when can you start - I need you!

According to the fcps website, the starting rate is $15.75 per hour (effective July 1, 2005, right now I belive it is 12.75) with a top scale of $22.00 per hour (which I am sure will go up with the new starting rate) and a $500.00 signing bonus. You are also guarenteed a minimum of 35 hours per week, and in the summre, you get to drive an A/C bus because not all regular drivers aare on duty after school lets out.
