I would love some input here...
For the past bazillion years our drivers have been outfitted in the same uniform: choice of brown cotton or poly pants with a tan long or short sleeved collared button front shirt. Our emblem is on the shirt sleeve.
Has anyone experimented with anything newer, perhaps more updated? Have you had positive results or disasterous? How much do you consider driver input? I was thnking about a more modern pant with cargo type pockets on the sides, also thinking about a color scheme change.
Throw any and all ideas out there...Thanks!  |

| I think a nice short sleeve polo shirt and khaki pants would be nice (or khaki shorts for the warm weather if you allow drivers to wear shorts). Cargo pants would be nice also. And for colder weather, a nice long sleeve button up shirt (kind of like a denim style shirt), a long sleeve polo style shirt or a nice sweatshirt would be good. And for your emblem, it could go on the front of the shirts instead of the sleeve, either on the pocket or on the opposite side. I don't know what color you had in mind, but I've always liked the look of a red shirt with khaki pants. |

| we wear what ever we want...as long as it is tastful...on our first day which is friday, all dirvers are wearing blue shirt, monitors , red, office white, all with the laidlaw logo on front and on back big "united we stand" done like a flag.....very cool....and they were given to us at the start up meeting...but i would not like a uniform. i have for the last two years got my kids on every route and my self to all wear red white and blue on sept 11, i couldn't so that if i had to wear a uniform, |

I am not much for uniforms. However if you must may I suggest a bright yellow jump suit, with black stripes up the sides. matching epaulets with gold fringe. Black leather tanker boots. white leather driving gloves. a black belt. all toped off with a chrome helmet. I think anyone would think twice before mixing it up with a group of so uniformed drivers.

| Another one here that doesn't like the uniform idea. We are able to wear whatever we wish as long as it is tasteful. Nothing with any cigarettes or beer advistersing on them. Which I really have to watch since I am a Sterling Marlin fan and he drives the #40 Coors Light Car! I have one tee shirt that I can wear of I keep a jacket on. The car picture is on the back! We can wear shorts as long as they are a decent lenght. |

I would prefer astronaut uniforms. Internal environmental controls, contaminate filtering and long-distance hands free radio communications are among the features bus drivers can make good use of. However, those magnetic shoes could be a problem if the material directly behind the plastic gas pedal happens to still be metal. It may be possible to order these uniforms without the magnetic shoes.
If astronaut uniforms are too spendy, then consider the deep water diver's uniform. Ruggedness is engineered into every part of this uniforn, resistant to petroleum products and also can be purchased with the features mentioned in the more expensive option above.
Still too spendy? The bio-hazard uniform my be the one for your fleet. Lightweight and trendy, this option includes a portable air supply that maintains a contaminate free environment for the bus driver. This uniform could quickly pay for itself because it can eliminate lost employee hours due to bus driver exposure to both airborne and contact pathogens.
Here's good news every school board will appreciate. The cost of biohazard uniforms are expected to drop sharply. Your fleet would also be in compliance with pending government legislation:
"Fueled by the recent anthrax attacks around the United States, President Bush today issued an executive order for all Americans to wear plastic biohazard suits for protection against possible terrorist biological warfare."
Bus driver's especially need to be kept alive in order to continue helping get the kids an education. Your fleet could help set a trendy safety example for America's kids and their parents. But if the budget just won't allow for that sort of thing, then you may be able to obtain them free from the government if your school board holds off making this safety device purchase until the new regulations take effect.
Covering the bases is an important part of convincing school boards the need for this safety device. Some members may find their appearance too scary for kids. Prior to your school board presentation you might consider asking a teacher's help to desensitize kids to the frightening appearance these uniforms can incite. One idea is to talk with the kids about the pending changes in their bus drivers' appearence. Might even be workable for the class to make mock uniforms in a class project and try them on. Click here for an example of how effective this classroom project can be at helping desenitize kids to the appearance of these uniforms.

I love pretty clothes and bright colors. I couldn't work for a company that made me wear those ugly brown uniforms.
At least go with the idea of khaki pants and red polo shirts. That sounds much better. |

| At First Student Our uniform is a blue button down shirt with any type of pants or shorts so long as they come to the knee while standing. Also no sweats or spandex. |
