I also meant to add, that in the first message I said "or any other bus that's not being used at the time." So, there would be buses that fit your "middle-age" standards being used as spares. We have an 87 as a spare (I think) and the 89's. We also have 99's and 2000's as spares. Actually, we got the 2000's a few weeks after the 99's. Sometime in June 99.

We have a set of rules that we follow and they have been adopted into District Policy. 1) We use a seniority list. The last driver to receive a new bus goes to the bottom of the list.
2) The driver has to have a clean driving record.
3) The driver has to have maintained their previous bus for the previous year in clean condition. we inspect buses regularly for cleanliness inside and out.
4) The driver has to have maintained the bus mechanically. That means they have to make sure the bus is serviced at its regular schedule interval. They have to make sure they report any defects to mechanics when they are found. ie pretrip and post trip inspections.
5) There has to be a need for a bus such as a driver of a special needs bus needs to be due for a new bus or they have to change routes.
