I am wondering into how contractors buy their buses? I know that inhouse district operations have bids that they apply for with dealers in their state and area, but since a contractor is not a district how does it acquire their buses? Is there a similar type of bidding process that goes on with the dealer or does the contractor just buy the buses that he wants and specs them? Im very intrested into how the contractor does this..

Any Help out there

When I sold buses, the contractor would go with the lowest price like the schools do.
First Student uses too always buy Blue Birds, but now are buying Thomas's and International. I heard the other day that First Student went with International this year and bought like 900 IC's.

Many states or districts that employ/allow contractors will permit the contractors to purchase buses from their own bid. The idea is that passing along the lower prices will result in a more favorable rate for the district.
