I like to use this forum for questions that pop into my head, and that would help me benefit from a 'reality check', and this is the one for today..how many buses does your school district send to neighboring districts for football games? Right now, I'm compiling hours and miles for our district, and it struck me as what an extravaganza these things have become..three buses for the team(s)(JV & Varsity), three buses for the band, one bus for the cheerleaders, and one for the 'wireboys' (whatever that entails!). Are we the exception, or is this pretty much the norm? ..how many floats are in your parade?

The high football team I drove for we had 10 buses, than it again my county go by how many football players, cheerleaders, band members, etc.... They just send how many buses they need. Also we have back up buses waiting at the compound just in cause one of our buses break down, which rarely happen. Most of the buses that does Sports trips are newer buses. Hope this help!

Up until this past year we always sent five buses and a truck/van. Two buses are used for the football team, cheerleaders, coaches, etc. The truck/van is used for big instruments that won't fit on the buses and 3 buses are used for the band. Now we use 6 buses. This year the band students got an additional bus to go to the football games.

When I was in high school, we took about eight buses. Five for the band, two for the football team, and one for the cheerleaders. THe band also used and eighteen wheeler for the instruments. Fortunately, our district had three "Activity Buses" assigned to our school that were used, so we only needed five buses from the city. The band usually got these non-school buses, for they had underfloor storage. These were really nice buses too. Saf-T-Liner ERs with AC, high headroom, panoramic tinted windows, and even individual bucket seats that reclined. Basically, these buses were cheap coach buses that took the band to in-state competitions.

It depends upon the game (playoff, championship, inter or intraleague, etc.). If it is a big game, we have 1 bus for the team, 3 buses for the marching band, and 1 or 2 buses for the "pep squad/rooters". Since we only have 11 transit-size buses, we occasionally must hire outside charter buses to carry some of the students. Of course we are also concerned with the ending time of the trip (so as not to go beyond the regulated "driving hours.").

We have one bus for the football team and cheer team--they share the same bus and two buses for the band. They do stack all their musical instruments in the back of one bus. That's why we need two buses for the band.
