We were having a problem with our 2010 IC CE300 buses taking too long to build pressure in the brake accumulators. This pressure is require to release this spring park brake and for brake boost pressure. We had one bus that would not build pressure enough so that the bus could be moved.
After much head scratching the dealer found the problem to be the cap on the brake fluid reservoir was not venting to allow fluid to be pumped from the reservoir. |

| we have heard there is a redesigned cap now(???), just another problem on these buses, along with many more!!!But if it is a vented cap, im worried it will introduce contamination to the system... |

| My guess is that the problem will reoccur. Meritor is covering parts on some repairs after the standard warranty period if you go through your IH dealer. For certain codes, they will provide a new HCU if you pay the labor (a great deal). One of the things they ask you to check beforehand is the cap I think...but we have never had a cap actually be the problem. If you can, post the codes that were extracted using the Toolbox software. |

We did not hook up the Tool Box. This is the second occurance on the same unit with 0 route miles between. The only mileage was 5 miles from the dealership. I am afraid my second call was less courtious than the first.
These systems require that the cap be vented due to the large fluid level changes during operation. The system goes against everything I was ever taught about keeping brake fluid sealed. |

| If your unit has a "pump monitor voltage low" or a "low pressure gradient" code in either front or rear, you need a new HCU and can get some follow up coverage. Both of these codes leave a bus sitting still. If your code is in the rear part of the system, you can override the park brake with toolbox software and drive it to the shop. If the front has no pressure, the best way is to back off or cut the cable. |
