Does the first filter the one that runs dry have a plastic bowl on the bottom? or is it the one that stays full.

Sounds like a fuel line leak. Two possibilities. The fuel line/fittings or the drop tube in the fuel tank. That filter on the firewall is the fuel/water seperator.
Find the vent hose hanging off the side of the tank. (sandwiched between the frame and tank) If it isn't sitting in the dirt on the frame rail have someone else put air (2 psi or less - use a vacuum/pressure gauge) in the tank through that vent line. If there is a fuel leak you will find it this way

Have had several vent tubes on the tank get plugged (mud wasp, road dirt) but the fuel/water seperator stays full for me. You will find a big vacuum on the fuel tank after engine quits. Loosten the fuel cap to find out.

BH164 is only 1/3 of your code.

Once you return to the point of the BHM164 (MID)
- Press & release the button once - This should give you either a Parameter ID (Pld) or a System ID (Sld)
---- A PID should be a J1939 code
---- An SID Should be a J1587 code
--Write down the PID/SID & #

Next: Once you have the PID/SID displayed
- Press & release the button once - This should give you the Failure Mode Indicator (Fail/FMI)

With these 3 parts of the codes you will have:
- which Computer
- which System
- What it doesn't like about that system's behavior.

I may not know the answer but I can usually find who does.
