| I need to replace the engine water pump on my 1992 Genesis. It seems I have to remove the radiator and a bunch of stuff on the front end, including the front bumper and a heavy frame/crossmember that sits in front of the radiator. Does anyone have any insight on whether I am going about this the right way, or what procedure is correct to access and replace the water pump? Thanks in advance for any help. |

| The water pump on the DT is simple and short it may be possible to get to it from on top, if you remove engine cover. USE GOOD SIX POINT SOCKETS these little bolts round off very easily. Before removing serpentine belt loosen four bolts that hold the pulley to the pump, remove belt then pulley, remove 5 or 6 bolts same size as pulley and one 12mm w/a 13 mm nut on back by coolant filter (take coolant filter off first for access) remove pump clean gasket material and check for excessive damage to rear housing by impeller rubbing. New pump will probably not look the same (many revisions) install with new o ring and sparingly applied silicone. Snug then tighten bolts in a crisscross pattern with the big bolt last. |

Your advice sounds reasonable for a 1994 or newer DT466 but maybe not for a 1992 like the poster asks about. |
Why yes, the ORIGinal CHARGER is a Fastback |

Yeah, that '92 has the older style pump and the fan and pulley must be removed first.
I've done them on the conventional cab without radiator removal but it sure is easier with the radiator out of the way. I've never worked on an FE so I don't know what you're up against.
Order your pump by the VIN. They had two different sizes back then although I'm fairly sure yours would be the larger one. |
If it doesn't fit, FORCE it. If it breaks, well, it needed replacing anyway. Pullin' wrenches for 45 years. |

| I wish I had documented the task. But I did have to pull the front of the bus. Big bolts, new impact wrench & sockets. But it was pretty straight-forward. |

| I don't know if this makes much of a difference, but I do see that you are posting from South Carolina. Being 1992, are you sure this is not a Ward Senator instead of an AmTran Genesis? I don't know much about mechanics but that may make a difference on how the bus is setup. |

| If I recall correctly that would be a genesis with the massive unhinged dog house? Then you can do a water pump from the top. It has a vee belt pulley system instead of the serpentine and the water pump also mounts the fan hub? I am pretty sure they can be done by yanking the alternator and bracke to get more room . No radiator removal required. |
