Hello everyone,
I am Michelle Pate and I am trying to get my Beautiful 8 month old son on the bus with me. I already carry my 9 year old. Washington County, Florida seems to be lost in the 1800's, so I need your help! If you work for a district that allows infants on the bus I need you to email me. I have gone before the School Board on 4 different occasions. And on Monday, March 7th they riped my heart out by voting to do nothing. In less than one minute they desided my son was not important. To me my sons are my life. And I will not stop until I have him on the bus, This is the very first time I have ever fought for something this hard but I believe in it. We as bus drivers only bring home apx $600 per month, So this will make a huge difference!!! So if you have any info for me please, please contact me. I am very excited and look forward to talking to each and everyone of you....

| You might try applying with another transportation provider in your area that agrees to allow your infant child to ride with you. Then use that as leverage to prod your current employer into allowing the same consideration. Personally I do not believe an infant child should be on a main stream bus with the driver - way too distractive. But it might work on a SPEC-ED bus with a monitor also on board. (jk) |

| I driver for Loudoun County, Virginia. We are allowed to take our infant and pre-school age children on our buses. Our attendants are allowed to do the same. |

| I agree with you JK. In our district, the drivers are allowed to take their pre-school children on the bus with them, but not infants. You can not make an infant "behave". If they are crying during the route and the mother is driving, it is too distracting. As a mother myself, I could not keep my full attention on my driving. |

Actually I think a mother would be way more distracted worrying about an infant in someone elses care. Crying is just noise...you can tune that out but worry can be mind controlling. Michelle, I haven't had a chance to speak with my supervisor yet but I haven't forgotten about your cause. We had district wide early outs yesterday and no school today. I will email you soon  |

Here if they aren't school aged then they aren't allowed on big buses, even if they are our own children..PEROID THE END!!!!My son was 5 months old when I started driving, he is now 8. He could ride with me when I enrolled him in kindergarten.
I personally would be worried about the germs that the child would be exposed to on a school bus. There are way to many nasty viruses..etc to risk the health of a infant. I would personally think that a daycare (yes expensive) would be the better choice. Not to mention the fact that the insurance for the school system would have to be increased.
Another thought Do you drive a big bus or a special needs bus??? If a full size bus~~Does it have selt belts already installed on it? If not who do you expect would pay for adding them?? The taxpayers??? |

Our buses now come stand with 3 seat belts per seat. And the first row of seats have a put down Toddler harness. We are totally ready for me to strap Ryan in and go...
